ST. LOUIS — Right winger T.J. Oshie capped a three-goal flurry in a 4:21 span early in the second period Friday night to send the St. Louis Blues to a 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins.
Right winger Vladimir Tarasenko added two goals, his 30th and 31st of the season, to help extend the Bruins’ winless streak to six games (0-4-2), their longest since going 0-6-4 during a 10-game span in 2010.
The Blues fell behind 1-0 in the first period before rallying, spoiling the NHL debut of goalie Malcolm Subban. After having to stop just three St. Louis shots in the first period, Subban allowed goals on the Blues’ first three shots in the first 5:09 of the second period and was pulled from the game.
Defenseman Petteri Lindbohm ignited the outburst with the first goal of his NHL career just 48 seconds into the period with a shot that went off Subban’s glove. Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo put the Blues in front at 4:16 when his shot deflected off the stick of Boston center Patrice Bergeron and into the net.
Just 53 seconds later, Oshie ripped a shot off the crossbar from the right circle for his 16th goal of the season to chase the 21-year-old Subban, who was replaced by Tuukka Rask. Subban later returned for the final six minutes of the game.
Tarasenko increased the Blues’ lead to 4-1 with a power-play goal at 13:59 of the second period and added his second goal of the night 11:45 into the third period.
At age 23, Tarasenko became the youngest Blues player to score 30 or more goals in a season since Brendan Shanahan, also 23, had 33 in the 1991-92 season.
The Blues scored the four second-period goals on just eight shots. Left winger Alexander Steen had assists on three of the goals.
Boston’s lone goal was scored by left winger Brad Marchand at 10:42 of the first period. His shot went off the glove of goalie Jake Allen for his team-leading 17th goal of the season.
