ORONO, Maine — Eight people are running for five available seats on the local town council and school board, and residents will get a chance to meet them at a candidate’s forum scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday.
Town Council incumbents Thomas Perry and Judith Sullivan will go up against three challengers.
The incumbents are running against residents Michael Costello, Samuel Kunz and Daniel LaPointe for the three available council seats.
LaPointe, a retired merchant marine who runs his family’s automobile junkyard and recycling business, has thrown his hat in the ring unsuccessfully for at least the last six years.
New Regional School Unit 26 candidate Brian McGill, who has been vocal at school board meetings in the past, is going up against incumbents Mark Brewer and Frances Mary Neubauer for two seats on the school board.
Candidates night starts at 7 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 9 p.m. and will be held in the council chambers.
“Residents are encouraged to come hear how potential town councilors and RSU 26 board members would spend your tax dollars for schools, snowplowing, trash removal, police and fire protection, housing code enforcement, zoning, and other areas,” an announcement about the gathering states.
Those who want to submit questions for the candidates can email info@orono.org or call in at 889-6905 during the forum that will be shown on Cable Channel 7.
Local elections are March 10 with voting in council chambers.
