CANAAN, Maine — A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stolen trailer, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Chad Demo of Canaan was arrested Saturday and charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, a Class C felony, according to Somerset County Chief Deputy James Ross.
The theft of the trailer was reported on Jan. 19 when sheriff’s deputies went to a working gravel pit site off Route 23 when it was reported the 6-ton flatbed trailer, a 27-ton wood splitter, a metal fifth wheel plate and other tools had been removed from the site, according to Ross.
Sheriff’s deputies received information on Jan. 29 concerning the whereabouts of some of the stolen items and the identification of a possible suspect. Police were able to recover the trailer and the wood splitter, which had been sold to third parties, according to Ross.
Enough evidence was gathered to obtain an arrest warrant for Demo, and a state trooper took him into custody Saturday without incident. His bail was set at $3,000.
The fifth plate and tools remain unrecovered, and anyone with information on the case should call Detective Mathew Cunningham at 858-9529.
