TOPSHAM, Maine — A 24-year-old New Hampshire man was arrested Friday evening at the Topsham Fair Mall after drug agents said he delivered about $12,000 worth of cocaine and MDMA, the drug known as Molly, to an undercover officer from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Ryan Thornton of Dover, New Hampshire, was charged with unlawful trafficking in cocaine and unlawful trafficking in MDMA, both Class B felonies.
Molly is the street name for a drug that is pushed as the pure powder form of MDMA, a banned substance, according to Reuters. It is the main chemical in ecstasy, a psychoactive drug.
Thornton was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and held on $1,500 cash bail.
According to a release from MDEA Cmdr. Scott J. Pelletier, MDEA Mid-Coast District Task Force agents and the Belfast Police Department have investigated the illegal distribution of cocaine in the Belfast area.
Pelletier said Thornton was arrested when he arrived at about 6:30 p.m. Friday to allegedly deliver 4 ounces of cocaine to an undercover agent. Agents also seized 7 grams of MDMA.
Officers from the Belfast, Bath and Topsham police departments and the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation and arrest.
