INDIAN TOWNSHIP, Maine — A Princeton man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire in an unoccupied home last fall.

Jerald Stevens, 33, is accused of setting a fire in the bedroom of a house at 26 Wolf Ave. on Oct. 31, according to a statement released Monday by Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. Stevens was summoned Friday on the Class A felony charge.

“The fire was set in the bedroom of the unoccupied house and caused extensive damage,” McCausland wrote in the release. “Stevens entered the house through an unlocked door and he did not know the homeowner.”

The state fire marshal’s office and Indian Township Police Department have been involved in the investigation. Stevens is due to appear in Washington County Superior Court in Machias on March 23.
