BANGOR, Maine — A Bucksport man who was involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Orrington last fall was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury on manslaughter, aggravated operating under the influence and other charges, according to Penobscot County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy.
Marc Sparks, 29, who was arrested Wednesday, is being held at Penobscot County Jail on $25,000 cash bail, a jail official confirmed.
According to Almy, Sparks’ indictment was sealed until his arrest. Almy said the aggravated OUI charge involved methadone. He also said that Sparks was charged with causing a death while driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Meanwhile, a former Monson man was arrested in December on more than a dozen mostly domestic violence charges, and an Old Town man was charged with numerous sex offenses.
The charges against Jared Clawson, 37, whose address is listed as Corinth, was indicted last month by the Piscataquis County grand jury on five counts of domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence terrorizing, two counts of unlawful sexual contact, criminal mischief and aggravated assault.
On Wednesday, he was indicted in Penobscot County on one count each of domestic violence terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence threatening with a dangerous weapon and criminal mischief and two counts of domestic violence assault.
An affidavit filed in January at the Penobscot Judicial Center indicated that Clawson’s victims were family members.
The interview that led to the charges took place on Dec. 17, after a Corinth woman filed paperwork for a protection from abuse order in Newport District Court, according to an affidavit filed by Penobscot County district attorney’s office investigator Garry Higgins.
Upon reviewing her statement, Higgins determined that there were nine incidents that warranted charges. The incidents occurred in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties from May through October at locations in Bangor, Charleston, Monson and Willimantic, Almy said.
Almy said some of the threats Clawson made included threats to kill the woman. Almy said that young children were present during some of the incidents.
