WATERVILLE, Maine — A local business that specializes in party supplies was damaged by fire Wednesday night, Waterville Fire Chief David LaFountain said.

Firefighters were dispatched to Are You Ready To Party, which LaFountain said supplies items that include tables, chairs and dunk tanks, shortly after 9 p.m.

LaFountain said the fire started in the basement of the building and is believed to have originated from one of two vehicles that were parked down there.

The chief said the building had a working fire alarm system, which enabled crews to get to the scene quickly and get the blaze under control.

“If it wasn’t for that, it would’ve gotten a bigger head start and I think we would’ve been in trouble,” LaFountain said. “The building is still standing because it had a fire alarm system.”

The chief said several tables and chairs that were stacked on dollies were damaged by heat and fire, but no injuries were reported.

Winslow firefighters assisted Waterville at the scene while Fairfield covered Waterville’s station. LaFountain said the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
