LYMAN, Maine — A local man was arrested on Monday after a three-month investigation into a sexual assault in November, York County Sheriff William King said.
Derik McLeod, 21, is facing a charge of sexual abuse of a minor, King said.
The investigation started in November when Deputy Jason Solmon, the school resource officer for RSU 57, garnered information that McLeod had contacted a minor via social media and invited her on a date, according to King.
Once McLeod met up with the victim, whose age was not disclosed, he allegedly compelled her to perform a sexual act on him, the sheriff said.
McLeod was released on $2,000 bail after his arrest, and he is prohibited from having any contact with females under the age of 18, King said.
