Bangor native Ryan Moore, a junior at South Kent School, Connecticut, has been selected to be among 1,000 attendees at West Point’s Summer Leaders Experience in June.

More than 5,000 juniors applied to SLE, which offers outstanding high school juniors the opportunity to experience life at West Point. SLE attendees live in the cadet dormitories and participate in academic, leadership, athletic and military workshops.

The one-week seminars are designed to help juniors with their college-selection process, while giving them an idea of the importance of leadership and sound decision-making in their education, careers and lives.

All SLE attendees participate in virtual-reality war simulation, and military and physical fitness training. Each student also selects three of the 15 offered workshops.

Moore was a member of the Bangor All-Star team which advanced to the 2013 Senior League World Series as well as a member of Bangor Junior League and Bangor East Little League teams which captured state titles in 2012, 2010 and 2009.

He has also earned honor roll grades at South Kent School while contributing to two baseball conference championships at the school, earning a league rookie of the year award in 2013.

Moore and his Selects Hockey Academy teammates have qualified for USA Hockey’s Tier I 16 and under nationals by winning the New England championship.
