FAIRFIELD, Maine — The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the death of a man whose body was found Saturday morning in a burning vehicle on Route 201.
Police and firefighters went to the weigh station on Route 201 just before 10 a.m Saturday and found a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier engulfed in flames with one deceased person inside, Fairfield police Sgt. Matthew Bard said.
Police have made a preliminary identification of the man, who they believe is from Maine. Bard declined to release any additional information.
Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office were at the scene Saturday, and the body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office, according to Bard.
