CLINTON, Maine — A single-story ranch on Route 23 burned to the ground Saturday afternoon, and firefighters believe the home was not insured.
Crews from Clinton, Fairfield and Winslow went to 564 Canaan Road, also known as Route 23, at 3:43 p.m. and found a fully-involved fire, according to Clinton firefighter Travis Cousins.
The homeowners, along with four of their five dogs, escaped without injury, although one dog was still unaccounted for Saturday evening, Cousins said.
Firefighters believe the blaze started in a woodstove in the home’s living room, he said.
“It was a total loss,” Cousins said. “It burned flat, right to the ground.”
The American Red Cross found accommodations for the couple, according to Cousins.
No injuries were reported.
