PORTLAND, Maine — The head of Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center is headed to Maine to take the helm at the downtown Cross Insurance Arena.
The arena’s board of trustees announced Matthew Herpich is in the process of moving from Ohio to Maine, taking over as general manager at the arena managed by his employer, Global Spectrum.
Beth Edmonds, chairwoman of the arena’s board of trustees, said in a prepared statement that Herpich was selected from a group of three candidates to succeed the long-time manager at the former Cumberland County Civic Center, Steven Crane.
“Matt is a dynamic leader with the experience, skills and creativity to help lead our on-site team to develop new and exciting opportunities for the Cross Insurance Arena and the surrounding region,” John Page, Global Spectrum’s president, said in a prepared statement.
Herpich has worked for Global Spectrum for nine years. The company in February signed a five-year deal to manage the arena. It also manages Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center.
Herpich started at Global Spectrum as an intern at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina, moving to the University of South Carolina’s Aiken Convocation Center in Aiken, South Carolina, in 2007, where he served as the events and operations manager and general manager.
The board of trustees in Portland said Herpich will be in charge of all aspects of the arena’s operations and look to coordinate bookings with other arenas Global Spectrum manages, including the Bangor arena.
