ROCKLAND, Maine — A Tenants Harbor man is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Monday afternoon on charges that he assaulted a woman and then trashed the home.

Joshua J. Hallowell was arrested Friday morning and charged with felony domestic violence assault and criminal mischief. The assault is a felony because Hallowell had a prior domestic violence conviction in 2011.

He was taken to the Knox County Jail where he was held without bail allowed until he appeared in Rockland District Court.

According to an affidavit filed in court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a domestic dispute complaint at a Tenants Harbor home. When officers arrived, they found that there were holes in the wall and furniture was broken.

They spoke with the alleged victim who said Hallowell had pushed her a few times and punched her once in the side of the face, according to the affidavit. The woman told police that the two had been drinking and Hallowell became violent when she wanted to see texts on his phone.

Hallowell told police that the alleged victim had struck him and broke a chair that his grandmother had given them.
