BANGOR, Maine — Multiple streets in the downtown area were affected by a water main break on Cumberland Street, Bangor Water District General Manager Kathy Moriarty said Tuesday.
The break was reported Monday, but crews were fixing another leak on Olive Street at the time, Moriarty said, and decided to wait until Tuesday morning to repair the Cumberland Street problem.
Moriarty said crews were attempting to find the broken pipe Tuesday afternoon.
“It’s difficult to know exactly where it is with the frozen ground,” said Moriarty, noting that crews have yet to uncover the broken pipe.
Cumberland Street was closed to through traffic from Harlow to Market streets, according to Bangor Public Works. Motorists are advised to use Market Street to Jefferson Street to Kenduskeag Avenue and Newton Street to Spring Street as detours.
