BANGOR, Maine — An Aroostook County man arrested last fall on child pornography charges was released Tuesday on $10,000 unsecured bail after entering not guilty pleas to three counts in federal court.
Robert Kinney Jr., 40, of Blaine was indicted Feb. 12 by the federal grand jury on one count each of transportation of child pornography, receiving child pornography and possession of sexually explicit material of someone under the age of 12.
Kinney, also known as Snake, is accused of knowingly transporting and receiving child pornography on the Internet in late August and of possessing child pornography between August and September.
A search of electronic devices at Kinney’s home revealed graphic images of infants being sexually molested, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said at the time of Kinney’s arrest by Maine State Police last year.
Kinney originally was charged in Aroostook County Superior Court. The state charge most likely will be dismissed as the federal case moves forward.
If convicted in federal court, Kinney faces between five and 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He also could be ordered to pay restitution to victims in the images he viewed for counseling.
