ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine announced Tuesday that the men’s hockey team’s first-round Hockey East series against Vermont will air live on local television affiliates WVII and WFVX out of Bangor and Portland’s WPME.

The best-of-three series kicks off 7 p.m. Friday, with the game airing on WFVX and WPME.

Saturday night’s game, also at 7:00, will be broadcast on WVII/WPME, and Sunday’s if-necessary game will air on WFVX and WPME.

All three games also will air nationally on Fox College Sports Atlantic.

“It’s great to have our post season hockey games airing live throughout the country for our fans and alumni,” UMaine athletic director Karlton Creech said in the statement. “We are thrilled to work with our TV partners to get these games on the air for all hockey fans.”

“Just when I thought the season was over, I have been given the gift of three more broadcasts of Black Bear Hockey,” Mike Palmer, WVII vice president and general manager, said. “Maine Hockey is one of those rare broadcast events where we all come together and cheer the home team. It is our team. Maine Hockey, you don’t even have to be a hockey fan, is something special, for all of us.”

The 10th ranked Black Bears went 0-4-0 against No. 7 Vermont during the regular season.
