CARIBOU, Maine — Temperatures were expected to feel spring-like Wednesday throughout Maine, but several communities picked up nearly a foot of fresh snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service’s Caribou forecast center, the St. John Valley town of Lille saw the most snow, picking up 7 inches, while Caribou saw just over 5½ inches.
Rangeley in Franklin County gained just over 5 inches of fresh snow, while Bangor picked up just over 2 inches.
The weather service reported Hancock and Washington counties, which have been hit hard throughout the winter, saw very little accumulation, with towns in those counties picking up only 1 to 2 inches.
Reports of accidents were few and far between, but a single-vehicle accident on the Maine Turnpike in Ogunquit caused the northbound side to be shut down for a brief period of time Tuesday night, according to the Maine Turnpike Authority.
The first early-spring thaw was expected to warm things up throughout the day Wednesday, with temperatures expected to climb into the mid-40s.
