WALDOBORO, Maine — Police are looking for two New York men as part of an investigation into the reported kidnapping of a Waldoboro woman and her son from their home the night of Feb. 25.

Karena Parker, 37, of Waldoboro called 911 from Augusta at 6:38 a.m. Feb. 26 and reported that she and her young son had been kidnapped from Waldoboro, according to Waldoboro Police Officer Larry Hesseltine.

The Augusta and Waldoboro police departments and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case that morning, and Augusta police told The Lincoln County News shortly before 1 p.m. that it had turned over its findings to the Waldoboro police and the sheriff’s office.

Both Parker and her 18-month-old son were uninjured and home with family that same evening, Hesseltine said.

On Wednesday, Hesseltine said police still aren’t sure what happened because several different stories are being told about the incident.

“I don’t think it’s a hoax. I don’t think [Parker] made it up,” he said. “Something happened, we just don’t have all the facts yet as to what exactly happened,” he said previously.

Hesseltine said police are looking for two black men who go by the names “Books” and “Paper” in connection with the incident. Police do not know their identities.

“Everybody agrees they’re two drug dealers from New York,” Hesseltine said. “They’re two drug dealers from New York who come up here to move product: crack, cocaine and heroin.”

A woman connected to the case was initially uncooperative, Hesseltine said. She has since spoken with Hesseltine on the phone, but refuses to meet with him in person, he said.

Attempts to reach Parker for comment were unsuccessful.
