PORTLAND, Maine — A New Hampshire truck driver and the firm he works for were summoned Friday after three crushed vehicles fell off of a trailer and onto Interstate 295, state police said.

No other motorists were involved in the crash, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said, but several needed to swerve to miss hitting the debris.

The driver, Jason Fisher, 30, was hauling 15 crushed vehicles to a Topsham recycling plant when a cable broke on the trailer and sent the crushed vehicles tumbling onto the northbound lanes, McCausland said.

The crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. and forced the closure of the northbound lanes during the busy morning commute.

Fisher and Lambert’s Auto and Truck Recyclers of Rochester, New Hampshire, were charged with defective load securement, McCausland said. The three vehicles that fell into the road were towed away and Fisher was able to safely secure the other 12 vehicles and continue on his way.
