Eighteen high school troupes have advanced to the state finals of the 2015 Maine Drama Festival one-act play competition after winning in regional tournaments held this weekend, officials said Sunday.
Held at nine schools around the state, the Class A and Class B competitions featured students performing a variety of one-act dramas and comedies, including some they wrote themselves, officials said.
In Class A, which features schools that have at least 525 students, winning teams came from Bangor High School, Camden Hills Regional High School of Rockport, Cape Elizabeth High School, Falmouth High School, Fryeburg Academy, Skowhegan Area High School, Waterville Senior High School and Windham High School, officials said.
In Class B, which features schools that have up to 525 students, winning teams came from Central High School of Corinth, Cheverus High School of Portland, Deer Isle-Stonington High School of Deer Isle, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, Lisbon High School, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, Monmouth Academy, Mount Desert Island High School, Yarmouth High School, and the combined students of Schenck High School of East Millinocket and Stearns Junior-Senior High School of Millinocket.
Bangor High School will host the Class A finals and Stearns will host the Class B finals, both on the weekend of March 20-21, officials said. Complete results, including individual awards from regionals, will be posted on the Maine Drama Festival website.
