ORONO, Maine — Eight people are running for five available seats on the local town council and school board, and Town Council incumbents Thomas Perry and Judith Sullivan will go up against three challengers.

The incumbents are running against residents Michael Costello, Samuel Kunz and Daniel LaPointe for the three available council seats.

LaPointe, a retired merchant marine who runs his family’s automobile junkyard and recycling business, has thrown his hat in the ring unsuccessfully for at least the last six years.

New Regional School Unit 26 candidate Brian McGill, who has been vocal at school board meetings in the past, is going up against incumbents Mark Brewer and Frances Mary Neubauer for two seats on the school board.
