CAMDEN, Maine — The Camden-area school board voted Tuesday evening to hire Assistant Superintendent Maria Libby as its next superintendent.
She will succeed Elaine Nutter, who announced in December she was retiring at the end of the school year.
Libby has been assistant superintendent for the Five-Town Community School District and School Administrative District 28 for the past two years. For the previous six years before that, she was principal of the Camden-Rockport Middle School, where she had earlier been a science and math teacher.
She went to school in Camden and was valedictorian of the Class of 1982 for Camden-Rockport High School. After graduation, she went to Bowdoin College and then held private school teaching jobs before returning to Camden in 1997.
“No one knows the schools better,” said John Lewis, SAD 28 board vice chairman.
