WINSLOW, Maine — Two people were hospitalized Wednesday in a three-vehicle accident on Carter Memorial Drive, according to Winslow Police Chief Shawn O’Leary.

Raymond Couture, 67, and Pamela Couture, 64, both of Winslow, suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and were transported to Thayer Hospital in Waterville, according to O’Leary.

Kurt Davis, 41, of Winslow and Patrick Routhier, 66, of Waterville were not injured, O’Leary said. Pamela Couture was a passenger in a van Raymond Couture was driving, while Davis and Routhier were the solo occupants of their vehicles.

The accident was reported at 1:40 p.m. and backed up traffic for an extended amount of time, according to O’Leary.

Police believe one operator was blinded by the sign, obstructing the view of a red light and causing the vehicle to crash into another and set off a chain reaction, but O’Leary did not indicate which driver it was. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors.
