SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — One man was shot and another man stabbed during an altercation on Highland Avenue on Wednesday night, according to police.

Neither victim, ages 18 and 19, suffered injuries considered life threatening, according to South Portland Police Sgt. Steven Webster.

The names of the victims were not disclosed.

The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. in the parking lot of the Wainwright Sports Complex, Webster said.

The 18-year-old was stabbed and remains hospitalized Thursday, while the 19-year-old victim was shot and was treated and released, the sergeant said.

Webster said police do not believe this was a random act of violence and are searching for the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
