SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Police say a teen who was distracted while driving caused a crash on Interstate 95 that backed up traffic for miles Friday afternoon.

The accident happened between miles 39 and 40 on the northbound side of Scarborough. A State Police sergeant said an 18-year-old crashed her car, which led to three more crashes behind her because people were following one another too closely.

Two people were hospitalized in one of the vehicles.

Traffic was backed up for 4 to 5 miles.

The 18-year-old has been cited for distracted driving.
