ORRINGTON — The Curran Homestead,  nonprofit living history farm,  will hold its annual Maple Festival and Irish Celebration, Sugar From The Forest, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the homestead, 372 Fields Pond Road.

The event will feature an ongoing demonstration of how maple syrup is made, beginning with tapping a tree and collection of sap.

Curran board member Bob Croce will be on hand to talk about his experiences with maple sugaring. His topic will be “Tap To Table.” Attendees will taste ice cream with maple topping and Jill Martel’s beans made with maple syrup.

Recipes for food made with maple syrup will be available. Sample grass-fed beef from A Wee Bit Farm in Orland cooked in a stew by Curran Farm secretary Richard Stockford and Curran Farm president Karen Marsters, corn chowder made by past president John Mugnai, and other goodies prepared in the Curran kitchen by Charlene Bowden.

Listen and contribute to yarns spun about the “good old days” around the wood stove. Enjoy live music and sing-alongs with Freshly Cut Grass and friends. Discover Carla Damon and her farm animals in the barn. Watch Pat Roy demonstrate blacksmithing in the smithy built by Curran Farm volunteers and register for the next beginning blacksmith course that starts Tuesday March 24.

Admission to the Maple Festival and Irish Celebration, which includes food tasting and all events, is $7 members, $5 student members, $24 family members. Admission to others is $8, $6 students, $28 family.
