TOPSHAM, Maine — Topsham police say a Lewiston man was taken to a hospital after he spent about three hours crawling to the road after crashing his vehicle into a gully along Route 196 on Sunday morning.
According to Topsham Police Sgt. Robert Ramsay, an off-duty Lisbon police officer found the injured man “down and bleeding” along Route 196 in the area of West Merrill Road at around 7 a.m. Sunday.
The man was identified as Sadak Kariye, 27, of Lewiston. Ramsay said Kariye had crashed a 1991 Honda, which ended up in a gully and wasn’t visible from the road. Ramsay estimated it took Kariye about three hours to crawl from his vehicle up to Route 196, also called Lewiston Road.
Kariye was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
