CLERMONT, Florida — Costly errors cost the University of Southern Maine Huskies a pair of non-conference softball games in their final day at the National Training Center Tuesday.
The Huskies committed five errors in a 7-4 loss to the Endicott College Gulls. In its 7-6 loss to Worcester State, USM made a costly two-out error in the bottom of the sixth to cough up a 4-2 lead.
USM is now 7-5, Worcester State is 4-1 and Endicott is 2-4.
Endicott juniors Sam DiBella and Emily Hoffman each had two RBIs to lead the Gulls over USM.
Freshman Taylor Lux led the Huskies with a 2-for-4 mark with a pair of RBI. Sophomore Samantha Crossman also had an RBI.
In the second game, Worcester State scored five runs, three unearned, in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit. With the game knotted at 1-1 through three innings, Southern Maine’s Mary Caron blasted a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put USM in front 4-1.
Worcester rallied behind two RBIs from Courtney Sailsbury and one from Katie Stori.
Jen Lynch hit an RBI double in the seventh for USM.

Colby 18, USM 3
At Portland, the fifth-ranked Colby College Mules scored the first nine goals of the game en route to the win over the University of Southern Maine.
Six different players found the net for Colby (5-1) in the opening 19 minutes as the visitors built a 9-0 lead.Junior Dana Swaffield had a hat trick, and classmate Abby Hooper picked up two markers and an assist in the opening salvo. Sasha Fritts finished with four goals to lead the Mules.
Anh Nguyen scored all three goals for USM (0-5).
Baseball
Southern Maine, Worcester State split
At Auburndale, Florida, Sam Dexter went 4 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI as the University of Southern Maine baseball team banged out 17 hits en route to a 16-1 victory over Worcester State University in the nightcap of the teams’ doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Field.
In the opening game, Worcester State used a six-run outburst in the second inning to take an 8-4 victory. The doubleheader split gives the Huskies 7-3 overall record for their 10-game Florida swing. The Lancers are 2-5.
