Sophomore goaltender Derek Fournier was among six members of the Bangor High School hockey team to earn All-Eastern Maine Class A honors.
Senior Jake Fournier and junior Trevor DeLaite, both forwards, were chosen to the first team along with junior defenseman Ben Crichton and goalie Fournier.
Senior forward Nick Graham and senior defenseman Sam Huston were picked to the second team.
Lewiston’s Jamie Belleau and Lawrence-Skowhegan’s Ted Fabian were named the co-coaches of the year.
The swift-skating Fournier was Bangor’s leading scorer during the regular season with 18 goals and 10 assists in 18 games.
“In addition to being our leading scorer, Jake had a great all-around season. He scored some big goals,” said Bangor coach Quinn Paradis. “His scoring ability was huge for us.”
DeLaite was Bangor’s second-leading goal scorer with 11 to go with 10 assists in 16 games.
“He was a strong center who won most of his face-offs,” said Paradis. “He had very good hands around the net.”
Crichton was Bangor’s top-scoring defenseman with 7 & 12 in 18 games.
“He was solid on defense,” said Paradis. “He played against the other teams’ top lines. He was really strong on the power play and played a lot of minutes for us. He was well-disciplined. He stayed out of the penalty box.”
Derek Fournier, who posted a 2.10 goals against average and a .922 save percentage, had a “great sophomore year,” according to Paradis.
“He gave us a chance to win every game he started,” said Paradis. “He’s a very good reaction goalie. He maintains his positioning. You couldn’t have asked for more out of him.”
Joining them on the first team were Lewiston forwards Jeromey Rancourt (16 & 12), Brandon Croteau (11 & 13) and Kyle Morin (11 & 7) and defensemen Joey Frechette (4 & 12) and Jon Sturgis (6 & 2). Also honored were Saint Dominic Academy of Auburn forwards Brad Berube (16 & 24), Caleb Labrie (15 & 13) and Austin Roy (11 & 13) and defenseman Mitch Lorenz (2 & 6), forward Cody Martin (35 & 26) and defenseman Sam Haver (4 & 8) of Lawrence-Skowhegan and Edward Little of Auburn defenseman Ben Steele (2 & 11) and goalie Devin Dumont (2.96 GAA, .886 save pct.).
In addition to Jake Fournier, the other seniors were Martin, Berube, Labrie, Lorenz and Frechette. Joining DeLaite and Crichton in the junior class were Croteau, Morin, Roy, Haver, Steele, Sturgis and Dumont.
Rancourt and Derek Fournier were the sophomores.
Graham had nine goals and 12 assists in 18 games to earn his slot on the second team. He was tied with DeLaite as the team’s second-leading point-getter with his 21.
“Nick played a lot of minutes. He was a strong skater and a good playmaker who had a lot of his assists on goals by Fournier,” said Paradis.
Huston overcame an early-season shoulder injury to have a solid senior year with one goal and seven assists in 16 games.
“He came on strong in the second half after his shoulder injury,” said Paradis. “He was a good stay-at-home defenseman who logged a lot of minutes.”
Accompanying Graham and Huston on the second team were Lawrence-Skowhegan forwards Andrew Carpenter (19 & 28) and Trey Michonski (18 & 23) and defenseman Adam Littlefield (1 & 13); Edward Little forwards Branden Dyer (10 & 17) and Liam Benson (6 & 15) and defenseman Cade Chapman (12 & 19); Gray-New Gloucester/Poland/Oak Hill forward Ethan Cailler (15 & 16) and defenseman Isaiah Dubois (8 & 8); Lewiston forward Griffin Wade (5 & 8) and goalie Nick Hawk; St. Dominic forward Adam Poulin (9 & 17), defenseman Gavin Bates (1 & 3) and goalie Ridge Servidio (2.09, .906); Brunswick forward Jacob McGowan (21 & 17) and Cony High of Augusta defenseman Spencer Buck (5 & 3).
Falmouth’s Isac Nordstrom beat out Berube, Martin and South Portland/Waynflete/Freeport’s Andrew Whipple for the Travis Roy Award given to the state’s top senior player. Norm Gagne, who guided Scarborough to its first ever state hockey title, was named the Western Maine coach of the year for the third time in five years.
