BANGOR, Maine — Abi Staab set a school record with eight goals, powering the Husson University Eagles to a 16-5 North Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Johnson State Saturday at Boucher Field.
Amanda Deshaies provided two goals and two assists, Mattie Russell notched two goals and an assist and Charlotte Gerhardy scored twice for 2-2 Husson. Rashell Saucier (2 assists) and Michaela Bicknell (assist) added a goal each.
Abby Greenleaf combined for seven saves.
Nicole Weeks paced Johnson State (1-2) with three goals, while Kylie Aither (assist) and Danielle Mayo posted a goal each. Samantha Jankowski made 11 stops.
Castleton State 17, UMF 4
At Castleton, Vermont, Brianna McKay racked up six goals and an assist on Saturday to spark the Spartans to a North Atlantic Conference victory.
Maria Lesure, Grace Johnson, Maddy DaCosta and Kate Auser netted two goals apiece for Castleton State (2-2). Meghan Els made nine saves.
Rhi Jackson scored twice to pace the University of Maine-Farmington (0-2), while Maddi Kadnar and Jaclyn Langevin had a goal each. Patty Smith and Kayla Burgess combined to make 10 saves.
Swimming
Waddell wins two bronze medals
At Shenandoah, Texas, on Saturday, former Bangor High School standout Emma Waddell of Williams College turned in another strong effort with two bronze medals in the NCAA Division III swimming nationals.
Waddell clocked a time of 50.5 seconds to finish third in the 100-yard freestyle and helped her team finish third in the 400 freestyle with a 49.6 split on the third leg.
Men’s Lacrosse
Husson 11, Johnson State 1
At Boucher Field in Bangor on Saturday, Brandon Corbo scored three goals and set up three others to pace the Eagles to a North Atlantic Conference victory over Johnson State.
Derek Driscoll (assist) and Jack White each scored twice for Husson (2-2), while Kevin Nolan, James Seager, Brett Martin and Trent Sell (assist) added one apiece. Zack Glazier chipped in with two assists while Tom Lepage made four saves.
Anthony Iammatteo scored the goal for Johnson State (0-2). Jay Palmisano piled up 32 saves.
Castleton State 23, UMF 0
At Castleton, Vermont, Taylor Swarter recorded four goals and four assists to spark the Spartans to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Beavers.
Zach Davidson scored three goals and handed out seven assists and Alex Denny scored three times for Castleton State (2-4). Connor Garand and Eric Horsfield combined to make seven saves.
For the University of Maine-Farmington (0-4), Joseph Maldonado piled up 23 saves.
MMA 24, Lyndon State 0
At Castine on Saturday, Nicholas Betti scored six goals to help Maine Maritime Academy cruise by Lyndon State.
Dean Samuelson and Kyle Thomas each added two goals for MMA and Mike Fuller recorded a goal and five assists.
MMA is now 1-4 the Hornets are 0-1.
Becker 21, UMF 1
At Leicester, Massachusetts, on Sunday, Daniel Johnson, Blake Boutiette and Matthew Genkos each scored three goals to lead Becker by the University of Maine-Farmington.
Cameron McAllister scored off a Tom McGowan assist for UMF with three minutes left in the game.
Becker is now 1-3 and UMF is 0-5.
Women’s Lacrosse
Colby-Sawyer 22, MMA 8
At Castine on Saturday, Alyssia Janak and Sara Berry each scored three goals while Molly Mulcahy, Nicole Lavinge and Caitlyn Whearty each added three to lead Colby-Sawyer by Maine Maritime Academy.
Briana Obshatkin scored three goals to lead the Mariners and Ally Fuehrer added two. Leah LIbby, Patricia Dunford and Rachel Redles each had one.
Becker 10, UMF 8
At Leicester, Massachusetts, on Sunday, Victoria Belcher scored three goals to help Becker prevail.
Karen Prescott chipped in with two goals and two assists for Becker (3-0) and Tatum Fahs added two goals. Karen Prescott made 11 saves.
Ayla Allen notched four goals for UMF (0-3) and Maddi Kahnar added two. Patty Smith had 11 saves.
