AUGUSTA, Maine — A traffic stop Wednesday led Augusta police to arrest a 25-year-old man wanted for a 2014 aggravated assault and robbery, according to Lt. Christopher Massey.

Corey Dionne of Augusta was traveling along Stone Street when he was recognized by Augusta police Sgt. Danny Boivin and pulled over, according to Massey.

Knowing Dionne had a warrant for his arrest, Boivin placed him in custody immediately, according to Massey.

As Dionne was being arrested, 40 grams of heroin were found in the vehicle, Massey said.

Dionne had been wanted in a May 2014 assault in which a 27-year-old man was attacked with a blunt object and had to be taken to a hospital for his injuries, Massey said.

Dionne was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs and taken to the Kennebec County Jail.

Bail was set at $100,050 cash.
