WALDOBORO, Maine — A planned expansion of the local Hannaford would double the selling space for the store off Route 1, according to the town’s code enforcement officer.
Stan Waltz said company officials met with town officials Monday about its plans. The code enforcement officer said he expects Hannaford to present a proposal for initial review to the Waldoboro Planning Board at its 7 p.m. April 8 meeting.
The building expansion will add about 19,000 square feet, Waltz said.
Hannaford spokesman Eric Bloom said that, with the town’s approval, the store hopes to have the expansion and renovation project completed in 2016. The project will double the selling space, he said, which will allow the store to offer more goods.
With the expansion likely will come an increase in the number of jobs, Bloom said.
