BRUNSWICK, Maine — Police on Thursday released a sketch of a blond man they say exposed himself to two young girls on Wednesday afternoon and attempted to lure another girl to his car.
The two incidents took place about two hours apart, according to police. The three girls all described a similar perpetrator: a blond man with a blond beard or goatee, between the age of 20 and 40 years old, driving a white or silver car.
At about 1:30 p.m., police went to the area of Spring Street near Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School after an 11-year-old girl reported that, while walking her dog, a man drove slowly behind her, then next to her and attempted to start a conversation with her before asking her to come closer to his car.
Police declined to disclose what was said. The girl did not approach the car and instead returned home without incident.
Two hours later, a man matching that description encouraged two preteen girls to come to his car, where he allegedly exposed his genitals, Cmdr. Mark Waltz said Wednesday.
The 10- and 11-year-old girls were playing in a park on Hambleton Avenue off Route 123 when they noticed a silver car driving back and forth.
“He got them to come to the car and then exposed his genitals,” Waltz said.
Cmdr. Marc Hagan said Thursday that police do not believe the man was attempting to kidnap the girls in either case, but suspect he attempted to lure the first girl to his car to expose himself to her.
Two of the girls met separately with Detective Sgt. Daniel Reed of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday and later confirmed the sketch matches the man’s description, Hagan said Thursday.
Police on Wednesday encouraged parents “to have the stranger-danger refresher with their kids.” They also asked for the public’s help in identifying the man and ask anyone with information to call them at 725-5521.
Hagan said the perpetrator faces a Class E misdemeanor charge of indecent conduct.
