BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University Eagles opened their North Atlantic Conference schedule with a doubleheader sweep over the University of Maine-Farmington, 3-2 and 4-1, in baseball action at the Winkin Complex Friday.
Husson is now 4-7 overall and the Beavers suffered their first losses and are 6-2.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first game when JT Whitten and Julien Boone hit back-to-back RBI singles in the third inning.
Kyle Bishop added an RBI double in the fifth to up Husson’s lead to 3-0.
UMF rallied with two runs in the sixth when Tom Grady and Jimmy Neal each RBI singles, but Dennis O’Neil pitched a perfect seventh to earn the save for Husson.
Robert Graff earned the win for the Eagles, giving up two runs and six hits while striking out three.
Husson again took an early lead in the second game with Bishop’s sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Eagles added two more runs in the third on RBI triples by Andrew Curran and Bishop.
Ethan Gouin put UMF on the board in the fourth with an RBI double.
Husson added to its lead in the sixth when Christian Corneil singled home Darik Messier.
Corey Mongiat earned his first win of the season with six solid innings of work, giving up a run and seven hits while striking out three.
Women’s Lacrosse
MMA 6, Green Mountain 5
At Castleton, Vermont, Maine Maritime Academy received six goals from six different players as the Mariners notched the program’s first win and North Atlantic Conference victory.
MMA is now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the NAC while Green Mountain is 1-4, 0-2.
The Mariners surged to the winning edge with a goal by Patricia Dunford at the 12:46 mark, followed by one from Ally Fuehrer a minute later.
Rachael Redles, Briana Obshatkin, Taylor O’Malley and Tori Cooper each added a goal for MMA and Ashlee Knight made five saves.
Catie Brewster sparked Green Mountain with two goals and Casie Sharp had five saves.
