BATH, Maine — A Maine dispatcher up for a national award just found out he made it into the top 40.
Chaz Chastenay has been with the Sagadahoc County dispatch for two years now.
Chastenay’s boss nominated him for the Smart Telecommunicator Award after a recent call he took. A father and son were trapped inside their house as it was on fire and filling with smoke. Chastenay was able to guide them to safety and keep them calm until firefighters arrived.
He said this award isn’t just a win for him, but a win for everyone in this profession.
The national winner will receive a donation of $1000 to the charity of their choice and regional honorees will receive a $500 donation.
