PORTLAND, Maine — Mainers are making a difference by feeding hundreds of thousands of families.

About 1,000 volunteers flooded the Deering High School gym in Portland Sunday to pack meals for the hungry.

It’s all put together by a group called Million Meals Maine. This year 200,000 meals will go out to people in need.

“We’re just hoping to grow. So we’re hoping to get maybe an event up in Lewiston, up in Auburn. Bangor’s actually got an event coming up next month,” said Rachel Carlson the group’s volunteer coordinator.

The meals get sent to different areas of the world to people who need it the most.

Last year’s food from Maine was shipped to Haiti.
