Bangor Christian Schools

BANGOR — Bangor Christian Schools will hold an Open House for students entering pre-

kindergarten through grade five for the 2015-16 school year. The event is set for 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, in the foyer of Bangor Baptist Church.

The day will begin with a chapel service; afterward students will take part in various classroom activities for the remainder of the morning.

Headmaster Jim Frost and Principal Martha Boone will host a reception for visiting students and parents at 11 a.m. in the Thrive Center.

Bangor High School

BANGOR — Paige Brown of Bangor High School earned third placed for her research, “Identifying and remediating the sources of pollution in impaired Bangor streams,” at the 2015 Maine State Science Fair in Bangor recently.

The science fair was organized by The Jackson Laboratory and Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance.

Colleges

Eastern Maine Community College

HAMPDEN — Phillipa Gilmore of Hampden, a student of Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, was one of 13 community college students named to the All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges at a ceremony on March 24 at the Senator Inn in Augusta. The award includes a $500 scholarship.

Emerson College

EDDINGTON — Jacob Caron of Eddington was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Emerson College in Boston.

Husson University

BANGOR — Husson University announced recently that Rhonda Waskiewicz has been named dean of the Husson University College of Health and Education. She previously served as interim dean of the school of education at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She has more than 19 years of experience in higher education.

Pratt Institute

BANGOR — Shirley Yuen of Bangor was named to dean’s list for the fall semester at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute

BANGOR — David Smallwood of Bangor, a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team was named WPI Men’s Winter Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 22, at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The quartet of Nathan Hughes, Alex Powers, David Smallwood and Andrew Bauer garnered honorable mention All-America status after placing 16th overall at the NCAA Division III Championships in Shenandoah, Texas. The foursome clocked a time of 6:46.68 to place eighth in the morning session in the event that featured timed finals.
