OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — An assisted living home is ripped up and burned after fire broke out Monday afternoon.

Crews say fire broke out in the kitchen of one of the units at Pleasantwood Estates, located on Saco Avenue.

Firefighters say a woman in one of the apartments was taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Another woman suffered minor injuries.

“Elderly people are you know there’s always a concern. Luckily, it was a daytime fire so no one was sleeping but still most elderly people are home even during the day,” Chief Rick Plummer, Old Orchard Beach Fire Department, said.

The women are expected to be okay and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
