Conference on Parkinson’s

BREWER — To mark National Parkinson’s Awareness Month a conference will take place 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Jeff’s Catering and Event Center, 15 Littlefield Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The conference will feature three neurologists who specialize in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease in Maine, as well as presentations from healthcare providers and useful services in Maine for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Guest speakers will be Dr. Ed Drasby, Dr. Marcos Poulopoulos and Dr. William Stamey. Their topics will include “The Benefits of Exercise,” “Parkinson’s at Home” and “Caregiving and Support Services.”

The cost to attend is $15 per person, $25 two people, and includes a boxed lunch. Registration and payments will be accepted on day of the event.

Sponsored by Maine’s central resource for Maine people with Parkinson’s disease and their families, the Maine Parkinson Society, founded in 1998, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of Maine people with Parkinson’s disease. This is done through education and increasing public awareness as well as creating programs to benefit directly thos in Maine with Parkinson’s and their families.

Bone health

DEDHAM — Caring Connections of the Bangor YMCA will  present “Osteoporosis and Bone Health” to help participants evaluate risk and learn tips on keeping bones healthy at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, at Dedham Congregational Church. Admission is free.
