ALBANY, New York — The Albany Great Danes combined for 17 hits in two games to sweep the Maine Black Bears, 5-3 and 7-3, in an America East softball doubleheader Monday.

Albany improved to 15-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference while Maine slipped to 12-15 and 1-2.

The Great Danes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the first game with Elizabeth Snow’s two-run double and Marlin Salano’s RBI single.

The Bears rallied for two runs in the third when they loaded the bases. Kristen Koslosky reached on an error and Felicia Lennon and Erika Leonard each singled. EmJ Fogel then slapped a single up the middle to score Koslosky and Lennon.

Albany added two more runs in the second and Maine added one on Koslosky’s RBI double.

Leonard finished with two hits for Maine.

Erynn Sobieski (5-2) earned the win for the Great Danes as she scattered seven hits and three runs over seven innings. She walked one and struck out four.

Molly Flowers (3-4) suffered the loss as she was reached for seven hits and five runs in five innings. She walked three and struck out one.

In the second game, Albany snapped a 3-3 tie with a four-run fifth inning when Elizabeth Snow hit a two-run home run.

Maine’s Jessica Burk launched a two-run home run in fourth inning to plate Janelle Bouchard, who had Maine’s only other hit in the game.

Rachel Carlson scored a run for the Bears in the first when she drew a walk, moved to second on Lennon’s sacrifice bunt and later scored on a passed ball.

Devin Durando (8-2) recorded the victory as she gave up two hits and three runs in four innings while striking out five and walking three.

Alexis Bogdanovich (7-4) took the loss after allowing eight hits and seven runs in 4 ⅔ innings. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.

Baseball

UMaine-Thomas game moved

The nonconference game between UMaine and Thomas College of Waterville originally scheduled for Tuesday has been moved to Wednesday because of concerns about the weather.

The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
