CASTINE, Maine — Peter Moore and Nicholas Betti each recorded four goals to help carry the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners to a 12-6 victory over the Husson University Eagles in men’s lacrosse action Tuesday at Ritchie Field.
Bronson Guimond added two goals for the Mariners (4-5 overall, 4-0 North Atlantic Conference) and James Wilgus made 12 saves.
Brandon Corbo sparked Husson (4-5, 3-2) with four goals and Tom Lepage made 11 saves.
Thomas 10, UMF 7
At Waterville, Thomas scored the game’s first five goals and then held off the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers at Smith Field.
Jennifer Day, Brittany Premo and Toral Nelson each scored a first-half goal for Thomas and then Sophia LaVallee and Nelson each added a goal in the opening minutes of the second half.
Ayla Allen responded with three second-half goals for UMF, but the third came at 1:26 and Jaclyn Langevin’s goal 16 seconds later cut Thomas’ lead to 10-7.
Nelson, LaVallee, Day and Samantha Greenlaw each scored two goals to lead Thomas, now 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. Ally McCarthy made nine saves.
Patty Smith finished with eight saves for UMF (2-6, 1-3).
Husson 18, MMA 4
At Castine, Abi Staab scored four goals to lead the Eagles by the Mariners.
Amanda Deshaies and Mattie Russell each chipped in with three goals for the Eagles (4-4, 4-3) while Alissa Fallon and Rashell Saucier each netted two. Abby Greenleaf made two saves in the first half and Jess Poulin made five in the second half.
Ally Fuehrer scored two goals to lead MMA (1-7, 1-3) and Ashlee Knight finished with nine saves.
Bowdoin sweeps Bates
At the Lafayette Street Field in Lewiston, Julia Geaumont scattered seven hits to lead Bowdoin to a 4-1 victory over Bates in the first game of a doubleheader.
Bowdoin won the second game 5-2 to earn the sweep.
Geaumont (7-2) walked two and struck out six and aided her own cause with a double, single and RBI. Adriane Krul contributed with a two-run double.
Emma Schiller singled twice for Bates while Kelsey Freedman added an RBI double.
In the second game, Marisa O’Toole sparked Bowdoin with a two-run home run and Krul doubled twice to back winning pitcher Emily Griffin (5-2), who gave up eight hits and five walks while striking out nine.
Maddie Inlow, Jenney Abbott and Kira Shaikh each singled twice for Bates with Inlow driving in a run.
Bowdoin is now 14-5 overall and 3-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference while Bates is 1-12 and 0-7.
