VEAZIE, Maine — Members of the Veazie Congregational Church have found a variety of Civil War-era songs that will be sung on Sunday to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.
“Our program will include Civil War songs, readings, recognition of veterans from Veazie, and a brief history of the Bangor Band’s participation in the [historic] war,” an announcement about the gathering states.
Uniformed Civil War re-enactors are scheduled to be at the event that begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.
About 70,000 Mainers who served in Maine military units during the Civil War fought between April 12, 1861, and April 9, 1865.
