VASSALBORO, Maine — An Augusta man suffered critical injuries Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle accident in nearby Vassalboro, according to state police.

Andrew Olson, 39, was riding along Cushnoc Road when his bike left the road and struck a guy wire attached to a utility pole, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Troopers believe Olson, who was not wearing a helmet, lost control on a curve and that speed was a factor, according to McCausland. Olson suffered head injuries in the accident.

The accident took place around 3:45 p.m.

Vassalboro fire and ambulance personnel assisted troopers at the scene.
