GORHAM, Maine — A dancer from Gorham is living out her dream and made her Broadway debut on Sunday.
Sunday was the official opening of “An American in Paris,” and her official debut on Broadway. The musical is based on the 1951 movie starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron.
Sara Esty said she realized her dream around the time she graduated from Gorham High School.
“Something is telling me this isn’t something I want to do, it’s something I have to do,” said Esty.
Esty received training at the Maine State Ballet and spent 10 years with the Miami City Ballet.
Then, this past fall, Esty went to France as a member of the cast of the new Broadway musical, “An American in Paris.” Now, Esty is on Broadway.
Esty said by combining the Gershwin score and ballet, this musical is something “the Broadway audiences have never seen this before.”
