BANGOR, Maine — Kayla Merrill pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the first game, then turned in three innings of shutout relief in the nightcap to lead Husson University to a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep of the University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday.

The Eagles won the opener 11-0 and took the second game 6-1.

In Game 1, Merrill (7-3) struck out four and walked two while dominating the Beavers. She also sparked the offense for Husson (14-8, 3-1 NAC) with a solo home run, two singles and three runs scored.

Lyndsay Merrill (RBI), Haley Spiers (RBI) and Deb Colpitts contributed two singles apiece for the winners and Chelsea Brennan smacked a solo home run. Casey Lopes added a run-scoring single.

Emily Vitone (1-5) suffered the loss for UMFI (2-12, 1-7 NAC).

In the second game, Kayla Merrill’s two-run double in the fourth inning put the Eagles ahead for good. She added a single and allowed only one hit in three innings of relief to pick up the save.

Nicole Andrade hit a single and a sacrifice fly and Lyndsay Merrill executed a squeeze bunt for an RBI to support winning pitcher Alex Healey (5-4), who allowed three hits and one run in four innings. She fanned four and walked one.

Katie Clark stroked a run-scoring single for the Beavers, while Natasha DeRoche and Kennadi Grover doubled.

Women’s Lacrosse

Husson 7, Thomas 6

At Smith Field in Waterville, Mattie Russell and Michaela Bicknell scored 13 seconds apart midway through the second half, providing the Husson University Eagles with the margin of victory in a North Atlantic Conference win over the Terriers.

Amanda Deshaies paced Husson of Bangor (6-5, 5-2 NAC) with three goals and Bicknell finished with two, while Abi Staab added one. Alissa Fallon added an assist to support Jess Poulin and Kaitlin Dolloff combined for seven saves.

Jennifer Day collected three goals and three assists for Thomas (7-3, 6-2 NAC). Brittany Premo notched two goals and two assists, while Samantha Greenlaw scored once. Allie McCarthy came up with 13 saves.
