ORONO, Maine — Bria Green doubled home Chelsea Evans (single) with two outs in the ninth inning Sunday, lifting Stony Brook to a 2-1 America East softball victory over the University of Maine at Kessock Field.

The teams split on Saturday, with the Black Bears winning the opener 4-2 and the Seawolves taking the nightcap 4-0.

On Sunday, Allison Cukrov pitched 7⅓ innings of two-hit shutout relief for Stony Brook (21-13, 7-2 AE). Green and Shayla Giosia (double) each had two hits and Lauren Kamachi hit a solo homer.

Nikki Byron hit an RBI single in the second for UMaine (16-17, 5-4 AE) to support losing pitcher Alexis Bogdanovich, who spaced nine hits and struck out 11.

In Saturday’s opener, Bogdanovich picked up her 10th win of the season, scattering three hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

EmJ Fogel belted a two-run triple in the first inning and Maine turned two Stony Brook errors into two unearned runs in the second to build a 4-0 lead.

Stony Brook got back-to-back homers from Green and Shayla Giosia in the fourth but Bogdanovich shut the door after that.

Byron had two singles for Maine.

In the nightcap, Cukrov tossed a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts and three walks. Lexie Shue’s three-run homer with two outs in the sixth gave SBU some insurance.

Shue also doubled and Green had three singles.

Rachel Carlson, Rachel Harvey and Kristen Koslosky singled for Maine.

Husson sweeps NEC

At Henniker, New Hampshire, the Eagles collected 22 hits in sweeping the Pilgrims, 7-1 and 14-3 in NAC action on Sunday.

In the first game, Deb Colpitts homered and singled with three RBIs and Kayla Merrill collected three singles and two RBIs for Husson (17-9, 6-2 NAC). Merrill scattered nine hits.

Brittney Distante singled three times for New England College (15-12, 4-3 NAC).

In Game 2, the Eagles scored 12 times in the third inning and cruised. Sami Schultz (4 RBI) and Merrill (2 RBI) each homered and singled (4 RBI) and Merrill homered and singled.

Kiley Williams singled and scored twice for the Pilgrims.

Husson, Castleton split

At Castleton, Vermont, Deb Colpitts knocked in four runs with two doubles and hurled six innings of nine-hit, one-run ball as Husson University of Bangor beat Castleton State 10-1 in six innings in the second game on Saturday.

Jessica Babcock’s two-out, RBI single in the ninth gave Castleton State a 2-1 win in the opener.

Lyndsay Merrill had three hits and an RBI in the second game for the Eagles (15-9, 4-2 North Atlantic Conference). Haley Spiers doubled and singled (RBI), Casey Lopes had two hits and Sami Schultz ripped a two-run homer.

Babcock doubled and singled for the Spartans (11-9, 4-1 NAC), Katie Gagne singled twice and Chelsea Grady hit a solo homer.

In the opener, Kayla Merrill’s double and Allie Hill’s RBI single staked Husson to a 1-0 lead in the third inning before Gagne doubled and Ruby Bushey tripled to tie it in the fifth.

Schultz had two hits for Husson.

Kayla Wood allowed one run and six hits with 10 strikeouts in nine innings for Castleton while Kayla Merrill threw a three-hitter for Husson with five strikeouts.

UMF sweeps UMPI

At Farmington on Saturday, Katie Clark had three singles and three RBIs and Shelby Bryant also had three hits as the University of Maine-Farmington beat UM-Presque Isle 7-1 to complete a sweep of Saturday’s doubleheader.

UMF won the opener 8-0.

In the second game, Natasha DeRoche tripled and singled and Emily Vitone pitched a three-hit complete game for the 4-14 Beavers.

Nicole Marucci had two singles for 9-11 UMPI.

In the first game, Bryant had four hits and two RBIs, Meryl Bond drove in three runs with two doubles and Clark singled twice (2 RBIs) to support Courtney Fowler’s three-hit shutout.

Bowdoin sweeps UMF

At Brunswick on Sunday, Julia Geaumont pitched a two-hit shutout in the nightcap as the Polar Bears won 10-0 after a 13-1 victory in the opener.

Katie Patenaude doubled for UMPI. Lauren O’Shea drove in two runs with a triple and a single for Bowdoin (23-11) and Geaumont struck out seven in the second game.

Alison Hamilton and Courtney Fowler singled for the University of Maine-Farmington (4-16).

In Game 1, Adriane Krul knocked in four runs with a homer and a double to back winner Emily Griffin.

Meryl Bond doubled and singled for the Beavers.

Baseball

Husson wins 3 of 4

At Lyndonville, Vermont, the Eagles split a NAC doubleheader with the Hornets on Sunday, with the hosts winning 12-6 and Husson taking a 6-3 decision.

On Saturday, Husson of Bangor won 11-5 and 3-1.

In Sunday’s opener, Ian Sackett and Dylan Newton each rapped a double and two singles to spark Lyndon State (7-17, 6-8 NAC). Brandon Gendreau and Ryan Rebar each had a single and two RBIs for Husson (22-13, 17-5 NAC).

In the second game, Brandon Reilly went the distance, allowing eight hits for the Eagles. J.T. Whitten singled with two RBIs. Newton singled with two RBIs for the Hornets.

On Saturday, Robert Graff fired a two-hitter as Husson capped a sweep. He struck out eight while Jordan Carter (RBI) and Andrew Curran each had two hits.

Sackett and Ryan Cordeiro had the hits for the Hornets.

In the first game, Carter drove in three runs with two hits and Kyle Bishop, Whitten and Chase Allen also had two hits apiece for Husson.

Dan Whitney tossed six innings of eight-hit, four-run (one earned) ball to pick up the win.

Newton and Nate Stewart had two hits each for the Hornets and Sackett homered.

UMF, NEC split 4

At Farmington, the Beavers and the Pilgrims split a four-game series. UMaine-Farmington won Sunday’s opener before New England College took the second 12-0.

In Sunday’s finale, three pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout for the Beavers (14-8, 7-7 NAC). Trevor Hisler (3 RBI) and Jordan Croteau (RBI) posted three singles each.

Zach Carrano doubled for the Pilgrims (7-15, 4-9 NAC).

In Game 1, Vincent Backert fired a three-hitter for NEC. Steve DeLuca homered and doubled with two RBIs.

Dustin McCrossin singled and knocked in a run for UMF.

On Saturday, NEC won 4-2 and UMF responded with a 2-1 victory.

On Saturday, Sean Cabaniss’ sacrifice fly in the seventh inning of Game 2 gave the Beavers the victory.

Jimmy Neal and Chad Snowman had two singles each for UMF in the second game and Kyle Peterson pitched a three-hitter.

In the first game, Jordan Hubbard’s tie-breaking squeeze bunt and Vincent Backert’s RBI single in the 10th gave NEC the win.

Christopher Smith had two singles and Brandon Quirk pitched 10 innings of six-hit two-run ball for the Pilgrims.

Joe Sullivan went the distance for the Beavers.

Thomas sweeps Colby-Sawyer

At Waterville, the Terriers pitched back-to-back shutouts on Sunday to sweep a NAC doubleheader and the four-game weekend series.

Matt Rutherford pitched a three-hitter in the 7-0 first game, then Kyle Fletcher and Nik Beeson combined on a four-hitter in the 3-0 nightcap.

In the opener, Joe Quinlan drove in three runs with three singles and Christopher Esquivel collected three hits for Thomas (12-14, 10-6 NAC). Jeff Dunn had two singles for Colby-Sawyer (0-24, 0-14 NAC).

In Game 2, Derek Kane (RBI) and Beeson each rapped a double and a single to support the pitchers. Justin Devoid doubled and singled for the Chargers.

On Saturday, Derek Kane fashioned a three-hitter and Beeson singled twice and delivered two runs as Thomas completed a sweep of Colby-Sawyer 5-1.

Matt Romandetti drove in two runs.

Thomas rallied to win the first game 5-4, scoring twice with two outs in the seventh on Romandetti’s RBI single and Michael De Los Santos’ game-winning double.

De Los Santos had three hits, including two doubles, and Romandetti and Joe Quinlan each had two hits for Thomas.

Nathan Frongillo had three hits for Colby-Sawyer and Devoid doubled and singled.

Men’s Lacrosse

NEC 10, MMA 8

At Henniker, New Hampshire, Sean Largay scored four goals, Skyler Saunders had three and each picked up an assist as New England College beat Maine Maritime Academy of Castine 10-8 on Saturday.

William Pendleton had two goals and an assist, Will Hay had the other goal and Chris Galluzzo made 17 saves for the Pilgrims (7-7, 7-1 NAC).

Nicholas Betti, Bronson Guimond and Mike Fuller (assist) had two goals each for MMA (6-7, 6-2 NAC) and Fuller. Dean Samuelson had a goal and two assists and A.J. Larrabee had the other goal. James Wilgus made 16 saves.

Husson 15, Green Mountain 1

At Bangor on Saturday, Derek Driscoll scored four goals, Trent Sell had three goals and two assists and Zack Glazier registered three goals and an assist as Husson topped Green Mountain (Vt.) on Senior Day.

Husson is now 7-6 overall, 5-3 in NAC play, while Green Mountain fell to 3-8 and 3-5, respectively.

Brian Bosse had two goals and an assist with Brandon Corbo, Kevin Nolan and Brett Martin had the other goals for Husson (7-6, 5-3 NAC). Tom Lepage and Andrew Tarr teamed up to make 10 saves.

Nate Laymon scored for Green Mountain (3-8, 3-5 NAC).

Women’s Lacrosse

Husson 11, GMC 4

At Bangor on Saturday, Amanda Deshaies scored three goals and assisted on two and Alissa Fallon added two goals and two assists as Husson celebrated Senior Day with a victory over Green Mountain.

Mattie Russell (assist) and Abi Staab chipped in with two goals each for Husson (7-5, 6-2 NAC). Michaela Bicknell and Rashell Saucier had the other goals and Jess Poulin made seven saves for Husson.

Catie Brewster scored twice for Green Mountain (2-11, 0-8 NAC) with Rebecca Girouard and Rachel Aramburu netting the others. Katie Legnard made 19 saves.

NEC 17, MMA 6

At Henniker, New Hampshire, Gabriella Bigos and Jacquelyn Lane had four goals and an assist each on Saturday as New England College triumphed over Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.

Mackenzie Meegan made 12 saves for NEC (4-12, 3-5 NAC).

Briana Obshatkin had two goals for the Mariners (2-10, 2-6 NAC). Ally Fuehrer and Lillian Slazas had a goal and an assist each while Taylor O’Malley and Rachael Redles scored one each. Ashlee Knight made eight stops.
