GRAY, Maine — While gloomy skies gave way to bright sunshine on Wednesday, a pair of Maine rivers remained under flood warnings, according to the National Weather Service.
Flood warnings continued Wednesday for the Kennebec River in Augusta and Sidney and the Mattawamkeag River in northern Penobscot County, according to the weather service.
The Kennebec River at North Sidney was predicted to crest toward its flood stage of 17.0 feet by Wednesday morning, while the river’s stage in Augusta was at 12.1 feet, just above its flood stage of 12 feet.
The river at Augusta was expected to crest near 12.7 feet Wednesday morning and fall below flood stage by the evening.
As of Wednesday morning, the Mattawamkeag River’s stage was at 13.7 feet, just above its flood stage of 13.5 feet. The weather service expects the river to keep rising, possibly reaching levels close to 13.9 feet by Thursday night.
