BANGOR, Maine — Flood warnings remained in effect late Wednesday for the Mattawamkeag and Kennebec rivers, according to the National Weather Service.
Minor flooding was reported along the Mattawamkeag River, above the town of Mattawamkeag, where the river level stood at 13.7 feet, slightly above its flood stage of 13.5 feet, the weather service said.
The Mattawamkeag is expected to rise to nearly 14.2 feet by Friday morning and could continue rising thereafter, so additional flooding is possible, forecasters said.
Motorists were warned to watch for flooding in low-lying spots along Bancroft Road, between Wytopitlock and Danforth.
Meanwhile, the warning issued for the Kennebec River at Augusta was extended into late Wednesday night.
On Wednesday afternoon, the river level reached 11.4 feet, uncomfortably close to its flood stage of 12 feet.
