GUILFORD, Maine — A Parkman man was killed Wednesday after his motorcycle struck a deer on Route 15, according to the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office.
James Estes, 55, was traveling southbound when he struck the animal shortly before 12:30 p.m., according to Lt. James Kane.
Kane said Estes had just merged back into his lane after passing a couple of vehicles when the deer darted out in front of him.
The lieutenant said Estes, who was not wearing a helmet, tried to avoid the animal but could not.
Kane said Estes was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he later died of his injuries.
Guilford firefighters and Mayo ambulance assisted at the scene. The deer was killed.
