CHESTERVILLE, Maine — A deceased deer was found by game wardens in Chesterville on Wednesday, and the Maine Warden Service is investigating.

The doe, which was pregnant with twin fawns, was located in a field posted with no trespassing signs with a fatal gunshot wound to its spine, according to a statement from the warden service.

Game wardens are seeking information leading to those responsible for illegally killing the deer, and a $1,000 reward has been offered by Operation Game Thief.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-253-7887 or State Police dispatch in Augusta at 624-7076. Callers can remain anonymous.
